Project LifesaverThe Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office offers Project Lifesaver to families and caregivers of persons with Alzheimer’s, autism and other similar needs. Due to the circumstances of these special needs, persons may have a tendency to wander away from home. By enrolling in the program, a Project Lifesaver client is equipped with a personalized wristband that emits a tracking signal. If the client wanders away from home, caregivers can call 911 and trained search teams will be activated to locate the client. There is no cost for the program.
Grandparent Caregiver ProgramThe National Caregiver Support Program includes services for kinship caregivers aged 55 or over to assist them with being more effective caregivers for children under 18, or 19 and older with a documented disability. In order to assist these unique families, the AAAPP has contracted with Bay Area Legal Services and Gulfcoast Legal Services to implement legal services. This legal assistance provides both legal advice and representation to the client by staff attorneys, paralegals, and volunteer attorneys. The legal assistance provided also focuses on the issues concerning the caregiver obtaining and maintaining sufficient and proper legal status over the minor in their care. Examples may include:

St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Cathedral is a historic church building and center for Greek-American life in Tarpon Springs. The church hosts an annual epiphany celebration on January 6 in which Greek Orthodox boys aged 6 to 18 dive into Spring Bayou to retrieve a cross. A statue of an epiphany diver is located in front of the church. The domed church is an example of Neo-Byzantine architecture and was modelled after Hagia Sophia in Istanbul. Inside are 23 stained glass windows and three large chandeliers from Czechoslovakia. The sixty ton altar of Greek marble was a gift from Greece. Tours are free.

Wall Springs Park is centered on a historical, natural spring once used as a spa and bathing area, complete with a viewing area, boardwalk, and information display. The average water flow of the spring is 2,917 gallons per minute or about 4.2 million gallons a day. The spring water temperature is a nearly constant 74 degrees. The park also features a 35-foot observation tower with a scenic view of the Gulf of Mexico. The park is connected to the Pinellas Trail.

This park is home to various wildlife and is immediately adjacent to Lake Tarpon which is five miles long and one mile wide. Picnic shelters are available and there is an elevated boardwalk which runs along the boat ramp, leading to an elevated lookout tower for a scenic overview of Lake Tarpon.
